Members of the 12th Man are up in arms following the performance of the Texas A&M football team to begin the season this past weekend.

The Aggies (0-1) competed well against No. 5 Notre Dame (1-0) but ultimately fell short in a 23-13 loss at Kyle Field. The defeat can be largely attributed to junior quarterback Conner Weigman’s poor play in his return from a season-ending injury.

Weigman was 12-of-30 for 100 yards and 2 interceptions, which is an extremely pedestrian line of statistics. However, context matters, and the opponent is extremely stout, as proven by past stats.

Two past Heisman Trophy finalists also struggled against the Fighting Irish, as pointed out by Aggie Sports 365 on X, which should give a bit of relief to fans in College Station. 2022 Heisman winner, former USC QB Caleb Williams, was 23-of-37 for 199 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 INT.

Former Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. hauled in 3 receptions for 32 yards. The game against Notre Dame was 1-of-2 games during his collegiate career that he did not record a tuddy.

Simply put, the sky is not falling in Aggieland and Weigman has a “get right” game coming up Saturday against McNeese State. Let’s all exercise some patience, because it is a virtue after all.
