Clemson defensive ends coach Chris Rumph on considering the transfer portal

As the entire college football world knows, Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program are not heavily involved in the transfer portal.

By not heavily involved, I mean pretty much involved at all. The Tigers rarely take a transfer and when they do, it’s in a low impact role. A role you won’t see on the field, typically quarterback depth.

Love it or hate it, that’s Clemson football right now. Even if they aren’t taking transfers, it doesn’t mean they’re not considering it. During Swinney’s Media Outing at the Allen Reeves Football Complex on Tuesday, defensive ends coach Chris Rumph discussed the loss of Adam Kissayi in the portal and if they considered hitting the portal to replace him.

“Coach Swinney asked me if I wanted to go in the portal and get anybody,” Rumph said. “I was happy with the depth and the people that we have on the team right now. So, when he decided to leave, for whatever the reason, I wish him much success, but we have to keep moving.”

The depth likely would have helped, but these are the guys in the building so it’s difficult to argue against them. Peter Woods moving to defensive end probably made this loss less pressing, especially considering Kissayi was considered a project to begin with.
