Bleacher Report lists Auburn as an “under-the-radar” team in 2024

Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze talks with offensive coordinator Derrick Nix during practice at Woltosz Football Performance Center in Auburn, Ala., on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Much of the hype around Auburn’s football program has come by way of the recruiting train this summer, as the Tigers have compiled themselves a top 6 2025 recruiting class to go along with the nation’s best commitment grouping in 2026. The hype about upcoming seasons makes it easy to forget Hugh Freeze has an extremely talented young contingent of Tigers ready to make an impact this fall.

Those freshmen, along with incumbent playmakers on both sides of the ball such as Kayin Lee, [autotag]Jarquez Hunter[/autotag], and Eugene Asante could help Auburn surprise some people in 2024. Bleacher Report writer David Kenyon certainly believes so, as he has Hugh Freeze’s team listed as his No. 1 team that can alter championship races this season.

While Kenyon isn’t sure Auburn can make a run at the College Football Playoff, he mentions the Tigers schedule being filled with opportunities against Playoff contending SEC teams. That schedule, which ranks as the sixth hardest in the country, includes road games against Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, and Alabama as well as home matchups with Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

Auburn is not likely to win enough in the conference to contend for a Playoff spot, but a few big wins in games which the Tigers will be considered underdogs could shake up the college football landscape. Even with that being said, the Tigers certainly have enough talent to make a run at a lower seed if quarterback [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag] can improve and a young defense proves wise above their years.

Hugh Freeze will lead his team into the 2024 season later this month when the Tigers host Alabama A&M on August 31.
