Sam Burns is one confident LSU alum.
The 28-year-old Shreveport, Louisiana, native − fresh off firing a 3-under-par 67 in the first round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship Thursday at TPC Southwind in Memphis − was asked afterward how he’s feeling about LSU football’s outlook in 2024.
Burns was not bashful.
“Yeah, I think we’re going to win them all,” he said. “We’re not going to lose this year.”

The Tigers came in at No. 12 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll and 13th in the preseason Associated Press Top 25, making Burns’ prediction slightly on the bold side. Especially considering LSU’s schedule includes Alabama, Ole Miss and USC.
Closing out the regular season for the Tigers is SEC newcomer Oklahoma. The Sooners are one of two teams the conference added − Texas being the other. Burns said he’s a fan of both additions and expects them both to play well. Just not too well, he hopes.
“I think they’ll hold their own,” he said. “Obviously very historic programs that have been great for a long time. I hope they don’t come in and start beating us, but I think it’s a good addition for the SEC.”
