Colorado stars Shedeuer Sanders and Travis Hunter celebrated a 28-9 win over Colorado State by bringing the Buffaloes’ starting offensive line to the post-game press conference. Sanders was sacked only once in the victory and completed 36 of his 49 attempts for 310 yards and four touchdowns.
“Dinner on me,” Hunter said to his offensive line. “Wherever y’all boys want to go. I got y’all.”
The celebration of Colorado’s O-line comes merely a week after Sanders indirectly criticized that very unit following a 28-10 loss to Nebraska, during which Sanders was sacked six times. The Buffaloes suffered their first loss in that game, and the offense failed to generate explosive plays like they did in the Week 1 win over North Dakota State.
“I mean, how many times did (Nebraska QB Dylan) Raiola get touched?” Sanders asked reporters after the loss to Nebraska. “Of course, whenever you’re able to run the ball consistently, then it opens up the pass … you know? But you got to understand what your team’s good at.”
On the heels of Sanders seemingly calling his offensive line out after the Nebraska game, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz noted NFL scouts will be paying a lot of attention to how Sanders handles adversity the rest of the reason. Said one scout: “His arm is stronger than it was at Jackson State and he’s pretty accurate. I just get turned off by the me, me, me stuff, and then when he threw his offensive line under the bus.”
Colorado will play its first Big 12 game of the season against Baylor next Saturday in Boulder.
