5 Colorado football true freshmen who could play for Deion Sanders in 2024

Apr 27, 2024; Boulder, CO, USA; Colorado Buffaloes offensive tackle Jordan Seaton (77) warms up during a spring game event at Folsom Field.

Deion Sanders has gained a reputation for ignoring high school prospects and solely utilizing the transfer portal to recruit talent.

The Colorado football coach is aware of that narrative, but it’s safe to say that he doesn’t think it’s a fair one.

“To you all that say we only go in the portal, we signed 17 high school players last year and 13 played,” Deion Sanders said at Big 12 media days in July. “When we sign a kid out of high school, the expectancy is for him to play. All you kids in high school right now, when we sign you, we want you to play.”

Although Sanders has dipped into the portal perhaps more than any other college football coach over the last two years, the Buffaloes weren’t afraid to play their high school signees as true freshmen during Sanders’ first season in Boulder.

Dylan Edwards led Colorado in rushing. Hank Zilinskas played in 11 games and is expected to start at center for the Buffs this fall. Omarion Miller appeared in 10 games, including an 11-catch, 196-yard performance vs. USC. Carter Stoutmire played in nine games and looks primed for an impactful sophomore campaign.

Those are just a few members of Colorado’s 2023 signing class who earned valuable college football experience as true freshmen.

Jordan Seaton is next in line. The five-star offensive tackle and On3 preseason true freshman All-American will start right away as quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ blindside protector.

If last season — and Sanders’ comments at Big 12 media days — is any indication, Seaton likely won’t be the only true freshman to earn playing time this fall.

Here are five Colorado football players other than Seaton who could see the field as true freshmen for Sanders in 2024.
