Big Ten on CBS: Get to know Purdue QB Hudson Card, who has a great backstory

As part of our weekly prep for Big Ten on CBS, I chat with one of the stars of the games ahead of time. This week’s conversation was with Purdue second-year quarterback Hudson Card, who has a great backstory as a Texas native who was once considered the Longhorns’ QB of the future before ending up in West Lafayette, with a little help from Drew Brees, who has a similar backstory.

CBS: Explain to us the magic of Friday Night Lights.

Card: “Everything is bigger in Texas, especially when it comes to high school football. I was blessed to go to Lake Travis, which is a great program. They paved for me the way they practice and played. It sets you up for the next level.”

CBS: You were a dual-threat at Lake Travis. You played quarterback, but you also played a little receiver while you were preparing to be a QB. We’ve seen your talent under center, how would you grade yourself as a receiver? 

Card: “I really enjoyed playing receiver. It was different for me, something new. It was really fun. I played with Garrett Wilson so they’d always double him and I was left alone on an island, so I probably got more balls than I should have. It was a great experience and allowed me to see the field with a different viewpoint, which I think was good for you as well.”
