Week 2 of the high school football season saw some strong performances by area teams and players.
Who had the best performance? Vote for the top athlete of the week. Voting will go until noon Thursday each week.
Here is a little more about each candidate:
Keaton Hendricks, Zeeland West
Rushed for 168 yards on just eight carries and scored three touchdowns in the Dux 42-22 win over West Ottawa in the first ever matchup between the two teams.
Connor Knapp, West Ottawa
The Panthers’ quarterback threw for a touchdown and also caught a touchdown pass against Zeeland West. The offense looked good at times against one of the state’s best defenses.
Gabe Kanfara, Holland Christian
The Maroons receiver caught a touchdown pass and also blocked a punt and returned it for a score leading Holland Christian to a 37-8 win over Comstock Park.
Cass Stanberry, Saugatuck
Quarterback had 19 rushes for 115 yards and three touchdowns. He also was 2-for-4 passing for 39 yards and a touchdown to lead the Trailblazers to a 50-13 win over Lakeview.
Eli Walcott, Zeeland East
Running back scored multiple touchdowns as the Chix came up just short against Flushing.
Quinn Rosema, Fennville
Quarterback rushed for 189 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns in a loss to Gobles.
