After a disappointing 2023-24 season that saw injuries to key players, including to quarterback Daniel Jones, the Giants’ QB1 is ready to move on from the team’s 6-11 record and get going on a new year.
And like every team nearing the end of training camp, excitement is brewing inside New York’s locker room for the chance at a clean slate. But for Jones, it’s more than just a new beginning that has him eager to get the regular season started. That’s because he believes the Giants have “a better team” entering the 2024-25 season than they did last season.
“I think we’ve improved in a number of areas,” Jones said. “I think across the board we’re better. We’ve had a good training camp and we’re ready to go. It’s always important to stay healthy and making sure we’re taking care of our bodies and doing everything we can to stay healthy. Yeah, I feel good about where we are.”
Obviously, health will play a factor in New York’s success but if most of its stars can stay on the field for the majority of the season, then Jones may be right. Don’t forget, the Giants not only made the postseason, but won a playoff game two seasons ago with a similar team and the same head coach and general manager.
Will they make the playoffs this year? That remains to be seen and at the moment they are not favored to do so, but, at the very least, Jones isn’t completely off base in saying he thinks this team is better than last year’s.
Even just having a player like wide receiver Malik Nabers, who wasn’t on the roster last season, improves the team. Now, that’s not saying a ton considering how poorly New York’s passing game was last season, but by all accounts, Nabers possesses the ability to be a true No. 1 receiver that should not only help the Giants but elevate the rest of their receivers who have hopefully improved themselves.
