With his second season at Idaho State’s helm coming up, former Colorado football quarterback Cody Hawkins has added his father, Dan, to his coaching staff.
Idaho State announced Wednesday that Dan Hawkins, who coached his son while leading the Buffs from 2006-10, will join the Bengals’ staff as their director of player and staff development. The elder Hawkins will mentor players and staff members while helping with game-planning and recruitment.
“My father has been a fantastic role model and my greatest mentor for as long as I can remember,” Cody Hawkins said in a press release. “He is a reflection of the person I try to be every day, and he helped formulate many of the core values that we try to incorporate into our program. His wisdom and character will help our team and coaching staff to maximize their potential on and off the field.”
Before joining his son’s staff, Dan was head coach at UC Davis from 2017-23, leading the Aggies to an overall record of 44-31 (31-22 Big Sky). He stepped down from UC Davis’ head job last November.
Cody, who threw for 7,731 yards and 63 touchdowns in four seasons (2007-10) at Colorado, led Idaho State to a 3-8 record last season.
