Veterans report for Giants 2024 training camp on Tuesday, and it sounds like it will be all systems go for quarterback Daniel Jones.
Speaking to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan at a youth football camp in Hoboken on Sunday, Jones said that he “feels good” and that he’s “ready to go” for training camp.
When asked by ESPN if he was fully cleared by team officials, Jones said “Yeah, should be ready to go.”
Jones, who suffered a torn ACL in his right knee last November, has said all along that his goal was to be ready for the start of training camp. The Duke product recently said in a podcast appearance that he is “doing pretty much everything – running, cutting, everything I need to do.”
Jones, entering the second year of a four-year, $140 million contract extension, participated in seven-on-seven drills during Giants’ OTAs and minicamp, but was held out of full 11-on-11 work.
The quarterback had his best season as a pro in 2022, throwing for 3,205 yards with a 92.5 passer rating while leading the Giants to a postseason victory over the Minnesota Vikings. But Jones played poorly to start the 2023 season, leading the Giants to just one win in his six starts while throwing only two touchdowns and six interceptions.
The Giants’ hope is that having a healthy Jones, along with a beefed-up offensive line (adding Jermaine Eluemunor and Jon Runyan in free agency) and a new weapon at wide receiver (Malik Nabers), will see the team bounce back to what it was two seasons ago.
