LSU-USC ‘College GameDay’ predictions: Who picked Tigers, Trojans?

[ad_1]

Week 1 of the 2024 college football season doesn’t end on Saturday. There’s a huge matchup pitting No. 12 LSU against No. 23 USC in Las Vegas Sunday night as part of the Vegas Kickoff Classic. Both teams have College Football Playoff aspirations as contenders in the SEC and Big Ten, but had their ceilings limited a year ago by poor defense.

LSU, in coach Brian Kelly’s third season in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, will have to replace Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels at quarterback. Garrett Nussmeier is expected to be the Tigers’ starting signal caller as they look to break through in the league and in the postseason after winning 10 games the last two years. This is the third year in a row in which LSU has opened its season with a neutral-site non conference game, but it’s the first game for new defensive coordinator Blake Baker from Missouri.

USC had a disappointing 8-5 season and must replace its own Heisman Trophy winner – former quarterback Caleb Williams – during its first year in the Big Ten. Miller Moss will get the Week 1 start for USC coach Lincoln Riley, who endured his worst season as a head coach in 2023. LSU will give the Trojans’ new-look offensive line and defense, with new coordinator D’Anton Lynn (previously with UCLA), an early test.

So how did the “College GameDay” crew pick the game? Here’s who Nick Saban, Pat McAfee, Lee Corso and special guest Johnny Manziel picked between LSU and USC:
