Bill Lapthorn, an assistant football coach and teacher at Mason High School, died Thursday, according to Mason head football coach Brian Castner.
Lapthorn has been with the Comets since the 2018 season, coaching the offensive line. He was also a health and physical education teacher at the school.
“Lap was just a great father, great guy, great coach, and great friend. I am thankful for all the time and conversations we’ve shared. He will be missed dearly,” said Brian Westbrook, who coached with him at Princeton from 2017-2018 and coached against him as a current assistant at Lakota West.
Lapthorn, also a personal trainer, ran an offensive line academy to train younger players.
“Bill was a pillar of positive energy in not only the Mason community, but several others in the Cincinnati area,” said a Facebook post published by Mason’s youth football organization. “He will be remembered by many family, friends and athletes. We are here to support our youth athletes, as we know many had a relationship with Coach Lapthorn. Let’s honor his memory by supporting his family, friends, players, and his passion and enthusiasm for football.”
