Aug. 21—The long wait is over. Football is back this Friday. The Mountaineers hit the road to face the Asheville Cougars this week.

Last year, the Cougars came into CE Weatherby Stadium and walked out with a 25-22 win.

Asheville went on to finish the regular season with a 5-5 record before losing its first-round playoff game 51-0 against Hough.

Tuscola will be looking to avenge that loss with a big win over the Cougars to open the 2024 campaign up.

Crompton has played his cards close to his chest all offseason — not publicly naming his starting quarterback or giving too much away before the season opener. The game will surely capture the attention of the Tuscola faithful, as they await the big reveal on who will be taking snaps under center.

Tuscola will most likely trot out either sophomore Bo West, the younger brother of last year’s quarterback Jed West who played as the Mounties’ junior varsity quarterback last year, or junior Jett Bartley, who transferred in from A.C. Reynolds.

The Mounties will also be looking for new difference makers on the outside as the team’s top three receivers are both no longer with the program. Bryant Oancea and K.J. Vang both graduated, while Jonas Howard transferred away.

The one mainstay of the offensive skill…
