Visiting Eagles smash AC Reynolds

A huge game from quarterback Bryce Baker and outstanding defense led the visiting East Forsyth varsity football team to a 49-14 win over AC Reynolds on Friday night.

The Eagles defense was able to subdue a good offense throughout the game, and East Forsyth scored 42 unanswered points up until late in the second quarter.

But Eagles Head Coach Todd Willert said the game was a challenge.

“They (AC Reynolds) are a good team and they will be a good team still. It was a long trip out there. It is about three hours up there in the mountains. We needed a challenge like this, and the coaches stepped up to the plate. We had a great game plan, and I made sure we stayed focused on that. We played well in all three phases of the game,” he said. “Sometimes when you get success sometimes you try to over coach, but we did not do that and we just stayed focused on the game plan. I just thought our defense played great. They had a big-time quarterback and a running back that has committed to Appalachian State, and we contained them. There was just one play where they caught us on a wheel route. No doubt about it, we have guys all over the place doing their job. Our defensive backfield is real young, but it has gotten a lot better, and our defensive back coaches have done a great job getting our guys ready.”

East Forsyth’s offense was explosive on Friday night.

“We hit a lot of big plays. Going into the game we felt like we could throw vertical, and we did most of that in the first quarter. We did that last year when we played them. We have so many weapons out there. We had three guys with over 100 yards receiving,” Willert said.

Baker, who is committed to play for UNC, completed 29-of 38 passes for a career high 482 yards. He threw five touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. JP Gilchrist caught eight passes for 158 yards and…
