During Monday’s press conference, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin became engaged with an interesting topic. During a break in the media’s questions, Kiffin began staring at a bottle of Coke and asked, “Does anyone drink Coke?
“You guys have 130 percent of your sugar for your entire day is in this one bottle,” Kiffin added.
The bottle of Coke was placed at the podium due because the soda has been an NCAA sponsor since 2002.
After Kiffin spoke about the sugar contents of a bottle of Coke, he was asked about the last time he drank some of the popular soft drink. Back in 2021, Kiffin lost 30 pounds prior to the regular season. The Ole Miss coach wanted to send the right message to his players about taking better care of themselves.
A bottle of Coke has become quite a talking point in the SEC over the years.
Former Alabama coach Nick Saban was asked about then-Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart being linked to another head coaching job. Saban took that opportunity to grab a Coke bottle and use it as a prop.
“I know you would like to some kind of way extract something out of this bottle, aight, that’s not there,” Saban said while holding a Coke bottle in his hand. “It’s not there. You all speculate and create things and you want people to respond to them. Get this bottle to respond to it because I don’t know anything more than that.”
Kiffin clearly isn’t a fan of drinking Coke either, and made it a point to show how much sugar is contained in the beverage. Very few media members probably had that on their bingo card prior to the press conference.
