Everyone knew that Michigan football had lost a lot — from the coaching staff to key personnel last year — but many (this site included) expected a ‘next man up’ mentality that would carry the Wolverines back to the College Football Playoff. But then Texas came to town and made the maize and blue look inept.
Still, Michigan is a ranked team and has a lot of opportunities for redemption. With USC, Washington, Illinois, Oregon, and Ohio State still on the schedule (all five of which are ranked below), if the maize and blue can figure some things out, then there’s a good chance that they could find themselves in a premium position at season’s end. If not, then a lesser-tier bowl game is on the docket.
ESPN was a little late in releasing its weekly power rankings, but you can see who made the top 25 and where the Wolverines came in below.
